Pricing Engine for UK, AU, and US Law Firms

One matter type. Seven questions. A defensible pricing recommendation you can take to the panel review.

  • Runs per matter type — mid-market M&A, contract review, litigation, whatever you're re-pricing
  • AI-aware — recommends fixed fee, tiered, subscription, or hourly based on how AI actually changes the economics
  • Jurisdictional flags for AU / UK / US / EU contingency and disclosure rules
  • Free indicative output. Full assessment (price band, margin projection, client-conversation script + email) behind a lead capture.

How this works

Two paths. Both feed the same recommendation engine.

Express — ~10 questions, 4–6 minutes

One anchor per dimension. Cost rates default from Alt-V's seed table. Recommendation confidence ±30%. Best for a quick "which pricing model should I use" answer, or as a scoping conversation with a client.

Full — ~40 questions, 15–20 minutes

Full diagnostic across all seven dimensions plus your firm's actual cost rates, historical hours, AI licence spend, and pricing preferences. Recommendation confidence ±15%. Produces price band, margin projection, personalised client-conversation script, editable email template, governance checklist, and re-pricing schedule.

Privacy. All calculations run in your browser. Cost inputs never leave your device, with one exception: if you choose per-use AI pricing in Block D, your per-matter usage cost and monthly cap are sent with your lead details. Only the lead-capture form (name, role, email, firm) and that exception are transmitted, and only at the gate between free and full output — with your consent.

Also from Alt-V: the AI Benefit Calculator (what AI could be worth to your firm) and the Business Services Ops Benchmark (how your ops costs compare). This tool answers the question they raise — how to price the work so the benefit isn't handed straight back.

Step 1 of 3 — diagnostic inputs

Firm-size preset

Picks sensible defaults for cost rates, hides fields that aren't relevant to your firm structure.

A short descriptor. Used in your final report and in cross-matter comparisons if you run more than one.
Drives the regulatory overlay (contingency rules, AI disclosure obligations).
Modulates the "AI discount pressure" input — large-corp procurement pushes hard, HNW barely at all.
Anchors the four-model comparison and migration cost model. "Don't know" is treated as hourly with a note.
Comma-separated. Adds jurisdictional flags in the Full report.
All prices and cost rates use this currency. You can change it any time via the toggle in the header.

For each dimension, pick the descriptor closest to your matter type's current state. Don't over-think it. If genuinely unsure, tick "Don't know" — the recommendation confidence will widen but you can still complete.

Historical hours by role for a typical matter, fully-loaded cost rates per hour, current pricing, and current realization. All of this stays in your browser — never sent to Alt-V, never stored anywhere outside this session.

Historical hours per matter (typical / average)

Fully-loaded cost rates (per hour, in your working currency)

Salary + benefits + allocated overhead ÷ billable-hour capacity. Not billable rate. Leave blank to use seed defaults from Phase 5 §3.6.

Current pricing on this matter type

Hourly: multiply typical hours × realized rate. Fixed: the fixed fee.
Worked-to-collected %. If unknown, ~90 is a reasonable placeholder.

Volume (for migration cost)

Used only for the migration cost model. Leave blank to estimate from your volume answer above.

Simplified for boutique / SME firms. Boutique seed defaults applied automatically. All inputs stay in your browser.

Attribute AI licence cost to the practice group serving this matter type. Flat licences (Harvey / Legora / CoCounsel) are overhead under ethics guidance and can't be prorated to individual client matters — the engine amortises them across matter volume for the pricing model's internal margin calculation only.

AI tools deployed on this matter type

Tick all that apply.

Total annual spend on the AI tools ticked above, allocated to this practice group.
Licence-seat count in the practice group serving this matter type.
Total matters/year across the practice group. Used to amortise AI licence cost per matter.
Overrides the Dimension-5 default reduction if you have firm-specific data.
Drives the client-conversation script tone in the Full report.

Your firm's margin target and pricing stance shape the recommended price band. Stance modulates the strategic-client aggression rule (Phase 4 §4.4 Rule 3).

As a %. Default: 30% mid-market, 40% top-tier.
Only recommended where client procurement has explicitly signalled tolerance.

We recommend using your firm email so we can send your firm-branded report.

Privacy. Cost inputs (Block C) stay in your browser and are never transmitted. Only your name / role / email / firm / consent, plus dimension scores and the recommendation name, go to Alt-V — after you click. If you choose per-use AI pricing in Block D, your per-matter usage cost and monthly cap go with them.
